Caption Comet
By Struck Anvil

Local AI transcription that shows you what needs attention.

Caption Comet transcribes on your Mac, corrects likely hallucinations in the background, and can compare two AI models to show you where they disagree.

Study Mode is always free. No subscription. No cloud upload.

Caption Comet Dual-Model Review showing transcript disagreements that may need attention

Know what needs attention.

Caption Comet corrects likely hallucinations in the background, then compares two independently generated transcripts and highlights where the models disagree. Focus your review where it is likely to be most useful instead of blindly proofreading every word.

Two ways to work

Transcription made simple.

Quick Mode detects the language, transcribes locally, and applies your saved output settings automatically. Drop in individual files or folders—even when a batch mixes resolutions, aspect ratios, containers, and codecs.

Take full control.

Project Mode keeps transcription, Dual-Model Review, editing, styling, and export together in one editable project. You can also batch files into projects and review each one individually.

Specialist models. Made simple.

Whisper downloads automatically during setup as the required baseline for broad language support. If your language supports Dual-Model Review, Caption Comet recommends the right one of only two optional specialists—one for English and European languages, and one for Asian and Middle Eastern languages.

Install either specialist, both, or neither. Translation to English uses Whisper and does not use Dual-Model Review.

FAQ

Questions about Caption Comet 1.3.

How can I automatically caption a video on my Mac without a subscription?

Drop the video into Caption Comet. It automatically detects the spoken language, transcribes locally, and lets you review, edit, export, or burn the captions into video. Lifetime Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

Can I transcribe audio or video offline?

Yes. After model setup, transcription runs locally on your Apple Silicon Mac without a cloud transcription service.

Which AI models does Caption Comet use?

Caption Comet uses Whisper for broad language support and can use optional specialist models for supported languages. It recommends the appropriate specialist automatically, so you do not need to understand or choose between AI models yourself. When a supported specialist is installed, Caption Comet can use two models for Dual-Model Review.

Does model agreement guarantee that a caption is correct?

No. Dual-Model Review highlights disagreements so you can focus your attention where it is likely to be most useful. It does not guarantee correctness or catch every transcription error.

Is Study Mode really free?

Yes. Study Mode can batch-transcribe complete audio, video, and folders without a Pro purchase or 30-second transcript limit. It uses study-friendly timestamps rather than precise subtitle timing.

Does Caption Comet upload my media?

Caption Comet transcribes locally on your Mac. Your media does not need to be uploaded to a transcription service, and no cloud transcription account or API key is required.

Does the 30-day trial start automatically?

No. The optional Pro trial begins only when you choose to activate it.

What happens in Free Mode?

You can transcribe and edit complete videos. Standard exports are limited to the first 30 seconds, and burned video includes a Caption Comet watermark. Study Mode remains free for full-length transcription.

What can I export?

Export SRT, VTT, ASS, and TXT files, create MKV files with selectable subtitle tracks, or burn styled captions directly into finished video.

What Macs are supported?

Caption Comet supports Apple Silicon Macs with 8 GB of unified memory or more.
